Domain Names
Before your website is visible to everyone on the Internet, you must first pay for the rights to own/use a domain name, then point that domain name (using DNS) to location (IP address) of the website. The rights to a domain name is the equivalent of owning a real estate title in the real world. On the Internet, you must re-license ("re-register") to use your domain every year.
Domain Name Servers (DNS)
DNS is the system that enables a web browser to find a web site. Domain Name Servers (DNS) publish the directions (the IP address) to all the registered domains on the world wide web. Without DNS, you would have to maintain your own list of addresses for the entire Internet! It is similar to phone directory providing phone numbers for a person's name.

Choosing a Domain Name-Whois
Now you have an idea of your websites goals, and you have some pretty cool names you want to use for the site, but how do you find out if the names are available?
From your start page in the iBizPanel click on the "Lineson products" tab. Then click on the "Web Tools" tab toward the right:
From here you can use the Whois tool for looking up domain ownership details from different databases. Whois is like a "white pages" for the internet.
On the Web Tools page choose "Whois" from the Quick Links on the left side of the page:
Enter the domain name with the extension (.com, .org, etc.) you want to lookup. If you get a result like the following your name is available:

Adding Contacts for Domain Names
Once you have a name that's available you need to purchase it. But first you need to add contacts for the domain name. Look at the Whois above, there you will find both administrative and technical contacts, it is this information that you need to setup before you purchase your domain name. FYI, administrative and technical contacts can be the same person or organization. From the products page click on the "available Services" tab:
Then "Contact for Domain Name"
On the next page complete the form and click the "Add Order" button. You now have the contact information you can add to your domain name.
Purchasing a Domain Name
You can now purchase domain names from the available services tab or from the products page by clicking the "Domain Names & DNS" tab.
Important: You must have arranged for payment with Lineson.
Enter the name you want to purchase, don't forget to choose the proper extension, and click continue.
Important: Make sure it is spelled correctly, once you buy it it's yours for a year.
Use the drop down boxes under contact to select the contact name(s) you previously entered. Once everything is completed click Continue, Cancel or save for later. Click only once.
Next "Configuring Website Hosting".
