SSL Certificate Installation  Instructions
Lineson

Before you order your SSL certificate please read this page along with the SSL Certificates page. These pages will help you get started.

Lineson generally recommends SSL123 certificates from thawte, these are the most cost cost effective for e-commerce and online transactions.

Certificate Signing Request (CSR) File

The process of applying for a thawte signed digital certificate begins with the generation and submission of a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) file. thawte then checks and verifies your right to use the domain name in question, and when satisfied, signs that request file, using the trusted thawte CA root key, and issues it to you as your certificate.

So first things first,  insure the information listed for your domain name is up to date.  You can do this by logging in to your WebPanel on the right.

bulletCheck the status of your domain name
bulletLogin to your WebPanel
bulletUnder "Services" click "Tools"
bulletEnter your domain name under "Look up a Web site's Whois information:"
bulletDon't forget to add .com etc.
bulletIf everything matches you are set.
bulletTo update your company information with your domain name registrar you will have to manage this though the registrar you originally registered with.
bulletIf you registered your site through Lineson, updates can be made through your WebPanel.
bulletSome common registrars are www.register.com and www.networksolutions.com
bulletNext you will have to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR)
bulletIf you have a Lineson Hosting website Email
bulletLogin to your WebPanel
bulletChoose "SSL Settings"
bulletComplete the fields making sure the information entered matches your company information list on Whois.
bulletIn the drop down box marked "key length", choose 1024.
bulletIn the drop down box on the bottom, choose: "Generate Self-Signed Certificate"
bulletThis is the code you will cut and paste into the CCR field on your application.  Please do not first paste this into a word processor or HTML editor as this must be saved as text only, you can, however, paste and save a copy with a plain text editor such as NotePad.
bulletIf you have a web site hosted elsewhere, please contact their customer support to generate a CCR.
bulletServer, the SSL123 Certificate is chained therefore please check that your web server supports Certificate chaining.

bulletThat's the tricky part.  The rest of the fields on the application should be self-explanatory.

bulletIf you have a Lineson ASP/Commerce web site
bulletLogin to you Site Manager, generally www.yoursite.com/siteadmin
bulletChoose "SSL Settings"

128-bit SSL encryption

thawte’s SSL123 certificates are capable of providing 128-bit encryption – the current industry standard.

With thawte, you are dealing with a “root” certification authority

This means that thawte is not reliant on another entity’s root infrastructure to deliver trusted SSL certificates to its customers.

Information displayed in a SSL123 certificate

When you install a SSL123 certificate on your server, your customers will be able to view the following information:

bulletThe domain to which the certificate was issued.
bulletThe validity dates of the certificate. This is extremely important, since it shows users when your SSL123 certificate was issued and when it will expire.

Compatible web servers

The SSL123 Certificate is chained therefore please check that your web server supports Certificate chaining. Click here to download a complete list of compatible web servers.
